About the artist

One of the defining country bands on the local scene.

Desperado is one of Romania's longest-running and most acclaimed country-rock bands. Formed in 1998, the band has spent more than 25 years developing a distinctive sound that blends country and rock influences with Romanian-language lyrics filled with humor, irony, and stories inspired by everyday life. Following their official debut in 1999, Desperado quickly became a familiar name on Romania's major stages, earning recognition not only for their energetic live performances but also for their authentic Western image, complete with cowboy hats, boots, and leather vests. Over the years, the band has released several successful albums, including Promit că nu mai beau (2000), Oameni de treabă (2001), La fel ca tata (2003), Răspundem ascultătorilor (2007), Bine și așa rău (2017), and their latest release, Succesuri și Esece (Selected Works) (2024). Songs such as Promit că nu mai beau, Lenea, La fel ca tata, and Fata de la țară have become classics of Romanian country-rock and continue to be loved by audiences across the country. Desperado represented Romania in the Eurovision National Selection three times (2003, 2006, and 2007), finishing second in the 2007 final alongside Tony Poptamas. In 2008, the band reached the podium at the prestigious Golden Stag International Festival in Brașov, winning the Bronze Stag Award. Today, Desperado continues to celebrate the authentic spirit of country-rock, delivering concerts full of energy, humor, and passion while remaining one of the most iconic and influential bands of the genre in Romania.
